In this week featuring rising artists, we highlight Togo-born and raised Afrobeats artist OmayGod Gabandi who recently released his very first music Video Agba Sako
The bilingual artist (French and English) has proven to have unique style for the Afrobeats music industry and here is our interview on his own words.
Who inspired your musical talent?
Inspired by the songs that my mother played while doing housework, I started the music as a drummer in church in 2011. I decided to introduce myself to the Togolese public in 2012 with two singles: In the Game (featuring MI Kaïl) and One Love. After I decided to drop out from school, I started working to realize my dreams even faster.
When did you start singing?
I would say around I to 2 years of age, and I was inspired by my mother. I mostly listen to Wizkid and Fela Kuti who both have had significant influence on my Afrobeats music genre.
What is your goal in the industry for the next 2 years?
I have thought to myself, “why not become a producer within two years?” I also want to work on my label project The Gabandi Family as well.
I would like to be the youngest African artist to deliver unique French & English Afrobeat tunes to the world. Currently, I am working on organizing my own events and reaching out to potential investors. I am determined to make those dreams come true and realize I have musical gifts to share with the world.
Are there any other collaborations or artists you wish to work with?
I would like to collaborate with my older brother Toofan and international artists like Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Davido & Dice Ailles. There are so many people for me to list, haha.
